At the time of painting The Rainbow and the Unicorn I was very conscious of family and in particular the formation of my children’s identities – and my own identity for that matter.
The world carries many fears and we live or die by the hopes we cling to or reject. The rainbow is a complicated symbol of promise and hope, judgement and identity and sheer abandonment in beauty. This work explores both the horrors and the heroes and the way we negotiate these with the promise of life after the storms.
